Five Mistakes First-Time Self-Published Authors Make

pod ep 1 five mistakes
On The Writers’ Podcast episode one, we discuss the five common mistakes first-time self-published authors make and we include some tips on how to avoid them.

I'll share the YouTube link, as it's easier to share on Blogger than the audio file. But below you'll find the links to other options.

How to Know if Writing Advice Is Any Good

Hey everyone,

As you may (or may not) have noticed, I've been gone. That's because—and I'll sound like a parrot—I've been focusing my time on my WritersAfterDark.net website.

I was sad thinking I'd have to let this blog go. Building a brand is a difficult task, after all. And it's not just any brand, it's one where my co-host, Raymond Esposito, and I intend to offer support and how-tos to our fellow writers. We're not experts, but we're sharing what we learn as we go. We see it as a writing site for independent authors where we share: news, resources, and advice. From authors for authors.

As you know, the writing community isn't what it was. The help is no longer as readily available as it used to be. And many questions are going unanswered as the industry evolves. Few websites are still going strong, like The Insecure Writer's Support Group. But many others have slowed down and even disappeared. So we thought we'll try our best to be there for our fellow authors, newer ones especially, and pay it forward. If we hadn't received support when we were starting out, we wouldn't be where we are.

What does that have to do with this blog? Well, I decided I didn't have to completely disappear from blogger and I also didn't have to kill myself carrying two websites. I'll try my best to update this blog with some of the articles, resources, and podcasts from Writers After Dark right here on this blog.

And I'll start with sharing our very first podcast, if you like what you hear, stay tuned. There's more where this came from! ;)

I'll share the YouTube link, as it's easier to share on Blogger than the audio file. But below you'll find the links to other options.

"If there is one thing we love more at Writers After Dark than writing about writing. . . it’s talking about writing. In each episode of The Writers’ Podcast, we’re discussing and analyzing the writer’s world – from industry news to writing advice, to understanding the pros and cons of the many options available to writers, to the psychology and studies related to our craft. Join us each Monday for a new episode."

In this episode, SK and Raymond make the proper introductions and discuss the topic of advice in general – how does a writer shift through all the advice? how should a writer apply it? and, How can you determine good from bad advice?
